Most Likely Winner: (Race 6: Dohko #7, 3/1):

Over on the MT @TAM, this race appears to have a couple of runners that can get the job done. For my money, I will be backing Dohko #7 from the John McAllen outfit. This son of Verrazano has a Tampa record that is pretty consistent. (11/2-3-2). Last season, he regularly ran at this level, and at one point put together a stellar win … going away by 5 furlongs. Olaf Hernandez is a jockey who is just earning his stripes. Maybe he can get the job done, and get this one home at odds of 3/1. If he remains at that price, then that appears to be more than square.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 4: Osprey #2, 8/1):

Trainer Kathleen O’Connell has the chance to get her Tampa run on track with this colt by Fort Loudon. Osprey #2 is bred for the grass, and has some solid TAM experience on this course. Even though this one was traded around between Nicks and O’Connell, that doesn’t mean the conditioner does not have a sense about where to place him. I think he needed a race, and that’s why he did not do much running. Swapping Samy Camacho for Hector Diaz is workable, as this new jockey rode him on a pair of occasions last season. The price looks tasty at 8/1, and he has the hidden back class to get the job done.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #2 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 1 1/16th, Clm16k3L, 3+):

Another tough Clm contest comes to us on the TAM Wednesday card. I am interested in backing Tony Granitz and a gelding by Animal Kingdom. Marv’s Magic #7 appears logical after he ran nicely at this level at the 1st of the month @TAM. You get Fernando De La Cruz, and he has a good Meet going right now. This one used to be with Paul Holthus at Indiana Grand, and though his turf tries there never resulted in a win over the past year, that doesn’t mean he isn’t on the cusp of a score. Using him, and Darien Rodriguez’s Unleveraged #4 on top could be a strong combination. This Scat Daddy runner is screaming turf, and he used to be with Chad Brown at every NYRA track. His class stands out, even though he has not competed in a race since September. He cannot be overlooked, with Jesus Castanon in the irons. Let’s put these 2 in the win/place spots of the Trifecta ticket, and roll under for the show … Initforthelove #2, Lion Charmer #3, and Saucy Derek #9. That should do it!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 4/7 w 4/7 w 2/3/9

Tampa Bay Downs is back for another week of racing … enjoy some of the best that Florida has to offer!
