Meeting:  Presque Isle’s meet spans five months — from the middle of May to the middle of October — and is headlined by the Grade 2, $400,000 Presque Isle Downs Masters for older filly and mare sprinters. The Presque Isle Masters is the only graded stakes race the track offers, however there are several other important stakes races on the calendar, including the $200,000 Presque Isle Mile and several stakes restricted to Pennsylvania-breds. Racing at Presque Isle is conducted solely over a synthetic surface.

History:  Located in Summit Township, Pennsylvania just a stone’s throw from Lake Erie, Presque Isle Downs is one of the newer racetracks in the country, having opened on February 28, 2007. It is also one of the few tracks in North America that runs races exclusively over a synthetic surface, and was the first track in the United States paved with Tapeta, the surface developed by renowned horseman Michael Dickinson. The track was built by MTR Gaming Group, who in January 2019 sold the property to Churchill Downs, Inc. for $178.9 million.

Facilities:  Like many horse racing tracks in America, Presque Isle is a racino. It offers 1,600 slot machines, as well as table games and a sportsbook. Racing is conducted over a one-mile oval with a Tapeta surface, which is a mixture of sand, rubber, and fiber with a wax coating.
