Meeting:  As part of the California Fair circuit, Sacramento holds a brief meet from mid-July through the end of the month. Horse Racing at Sacramento is highlighted by the $50,000 Governor’s Handicap and is conducted only on dirt.

History:  Now the oldest continuous race meeting in California, Sacramento is part of the California State Fair, which began in 1854. It wasn’t until 1861, however, that the fair found a permanent home in Sacramento. The original purpose of the fair was to promote California agriculture, but horse racing has become an integral part of it, as well.

Facilities: The California State Fair features blue-ribbon animal displays, culinary delights and competitions, live music concerts, a carnival, fireworks, and other family fun.
