Meeting: SunRay conducts a one-month mixed meet from early May to early June. The main horse races for thoroughbreds are the $50,000 Jack Cole Handicap and the $50,000 Aztec Oaks, while the top races for quarter horses are the $50,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes and the $50,000 Four Corners Senora Stakes.
History: Located in Farmington, NM in the Four Corners region, SunRay Park first opened in 1984 as San Juan Downs, however due to declining business was forced to close in 1993. After the passage of racino legislation in the state in 1999, the track was resurrected that same year on the county fairgrounds and rebranded as SunRay Park. Multiple stakes winner Peppers Pride tied a North American record when she won her 16th consecutive race at SunRay Park in 2008.
Facilities: SunRay is a racino with over 400 slot machines and video poker and blackjack. There is also a Sportz Arena restaurant that serves All-American fare as well as more local, New Mexico dishes. The track also hosts live concerts and stand-up comedy.
