History: Located a bit off the beaten path of the Derby Trail at Remington Park in Oklahoma, the Springboard Mile is a very lucrative stakes race for 2-year-olds that was inaugurated in 2001 and known as the Remington MEC Mile until 2009. The race is run at a mile on dirt and in 2019 carried a purse of $400,000. Its generous prize money has helped vault the race to national prominence despite it being one of the youngest Derby preps, and it was added as an official Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifying race in 2017. Though the race hasn’t produced many notable winners, Will Take Charge finished second in the 2012 edition; a year later, he put together a campaign that earned him Champion 3-Year-Old honors.
