When first sitting down to study this race, I thought it was a bit of an open and shut case after watching the recent running of the John Smiths Cup at York. Enfjaar could hardly have won that in more taking fashion and there is a massive chance he is destined to be a group horse in the very near future, particularly given Roger Varian's approach with this type. He is not an exciting price, but has to enter everyone's calculations and is the most likely winner.
On rewatching the John Smith's Cup however, another horse stuck out to me and that was DUAL IDENTITY, who gets the vote each-way at more than quadruple the price of the fav. To say he met trouble would be an understatement and that could well repeat here given he is drawn on the inside and is a hold up horse, but I am willing to take the plunge as it was clear in that race at York he was travelling as well as anything and with a clear run would surely have been the horse who gave the winner the most to think about.
If he had done that there's no chance he'd be chalked up around 16/1 here and as such I've got my forgiving hat on and will be backing Callum Shepherd to find smooth passage and reverse the form with Enfjaar and the rest.

The final tip from me on day one comes with a real time of year specialist in JM JUNGLE. With just eight stone eight to carry the Quinn's gelding will be one of the lightweights of the field and despite a few poor runs of late, I'm willing to forget them as he could easily have been purely aimed back at this meeting given his clear liking for racing at Goodwood.
One thing we can be certain of here is this will be a blink and you'll miss it race, with pace all over the place, and that is exactly what JM Jungle wants here on the evidence of his win here last season. He did not finish in a good position last time out - 11th of 15 - but that race really suited those who were held up at Hamilton, a course JM Jungle would not be obviously enamoured with. He will appreciate this test much more and is weighted to be involved.
I was fearful of Walbank the most on one of his first runs for George Boughey, who we all know does very well with stable switchers, but think the rest of the market leaders will have a job on giving my pick weight around this track.
