The prize pool for the 2020 Breeders’ Cup got an uptick on Tuesday when the Breeders’ Cup Board approved adding a total of $4million in extra money.

Three races will see extra prize money on offer with the Dirt Mile and Classic both seeing an extra $1million on offer along with $2million for the Turf.

This equates to a total of $7million on offer in the Classic, $6million for the Turf and $2million for the Dirt Mile.

With these increases in prize pool money, the Turf is now tied for the richest Group 1 turf race in the world along with keeping the Dirt Mile well and truly the richest dirt race globally. The Classic remains the richest race in North America and it will continue to be the third richest race around the Globe when it comes to Group 1 races.

Speaking to the Breeders’ Cup official site, President and CEO Drew Fleming said:

‘These purse increases reflect the Breeders’ Cup’s mission to conduct the World Championships at the highest levels of quality and to keep our races competitive on the international stage. Our decision to increase purse payouts to 10th place in all our races is a tribute to the loyal participation of our owners and trainers who support the World Championships each year.’
