About the Coronation Stakes
The Coronation Stakes is a Group One race run over a distance just shy of a mile and is open to three-year-old fillies.
First held in 1840, the Coronation Stakes has grown in stature and was eventually upgraded to Group One status in 1988 and has been a target by those star fillies that have competed in the 1000 Guineas in England, Ireland and France. Only the best fillies have managed to claim victory in a Guineas before tasting victory in the Coronation with Alpha Centauri a star filly that achieved that feat in 2018.
Dermot Weld's Tahiyra was a clear winner of the Coronation Stakes as the 8/13 favourite outclassed her rivals.

Coronation Stakes Tips
Although this year there is a particularly classy field assembled for the Coronation Stakes, it is hard to look past the claims of favourite OPERA SINGER for team Ballydoyle. She disappointed in the Irish 1000 Guineas first time up this season but as a juvenile looked top class and her team insist she was underdone at the Curragh, with this race now the sole target.
