The Grand National

Stretching over 4 miles and 2½ furlongs, the Grand National features 30 large fences and is hugely demanding on horse and rider. Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is a five-day flat racing festival held at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire every June. The event is known for its formal dress code with lots of extravagant millinery and outfits on display. Epsom Derby

The Derby is the most high profile flat race in the world and is a Group 1 flat horse race that dates back to 1780. It’s the middle leg of the Triple Crown of British horse racing, with the 2000 Guineas and St Leger taking place on either side. The Derby is run at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey every June and covers a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 10 yards.

Glorious Goodwood

Glorious Goodwood takes place in late July and early August each year and is a highlight of the British flat racing calendar. It comprises several famous races including three of the UK’s 36 annual Group 1 flat races, the Goodwood Cup, Nassau Stakes, and the Sussex Stakes. The Goodwood Cup is the longest distance of the three at 2 miles, while Nassau is just over one mile and Sussex is exactly 1 mile (1,609 metres).
