What Is A Non Runner
A non runner is a horse that’s named to take part in an event but ends up having to withdraw before the race starts. It’s helpful to be able to quickly check all of today’s non runners, so that’s what this page is all about. We list all of today’s non runners at the races from all the UK & Irish meetings. You can also use this page as a springboard to the best bookmaker offers and view the latest racing results.
Non Runners For The Big Festivals And Big Races
We list non runners for all the big horse racing festivals — once you’ve seen who’s dropped out, you can go ahead and pick a different selection. Here’s a quick preview of the biggest festivals and races we feature on our site.
Cheltenham Festival
The Cheltenham Festival is a four-day extravaganza held annually in March as part of the UK’s National Hunt racing calendar. Featuring several Grade I races such as the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Stayers’ Hurdle, and Queen Mother Champion Chase, Cheltenham is hugely popular both for betting and for the occasion itself — with its electrifying atmosphere often dubbed the ‘Cheltenham roar’.
Grand National
The Grand National is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Merseyside. First run in 1839, the event is the ultimate test of a horse’s ability — covering a distance of 4 miles and 2½ furlongs, the course features 30 fences that are larger than those typically found at other National Hunt tracks. Many of these fences are famous in their own right, such as The Chair, the Canal Turn, and Becher’s Brook. With a prize fund of £1 million, the Grand National is the most valuable jump race in Europe and is popular among experts and casual punters alike, with the race broadcast on free-to-air television in the UK since 1960.
Royal Ascot
Famous for its glittering gowns and tremendous top hats, the Royal Ascot is a five-day flat racing event held annually in June. Ascot Racecourse was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne and has remained a royal venue ever since, with the King and Queen arriving by carriage to watch the events unfold. The Gold Cup is the feature race on the third day of Royal Ascot — a flat horse race open to horses aged four years or older, it’s run over a distance of 2 miles, 3 furlongs, and 210 yards.
Epsom Derby
The Epsom Derby is a flat horse race first run in 1780. Alongside the 2000 Guineas and St Leger, it’s part of the Triple Crown of British horse racing. Run at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey every June, the race covers a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 10 yards. Lester Piggott is the all-time leading jockey at the event, with nine wins spanning three decades from 1954 with Never Say Die to 1983 with Teenoso. Aidan O’Brien is the leading trainer, also with nine wins.
Glorious Goodwood
Glorious Goodwood takes place in late July and early August each year at the Goodwood Racecourse near Chichester, West Sussex. The festival includes the Sussex Stakes, Nassau Stakes, and the Goodwood Cup. The latter — held on the opening day of the five-day meeting — dates back to 1812 and is a leading event for horses specialising in long-distance racing, otherwise known as stayers.

Payment Options Available
After you check out today’s non runners at the races and pick a new selection, you’ll need to add funds to your account in order to place a bet. There are plenty of payment methods to choose from for both deposits and withdrawals, so let’s run through some of the best options.
Debit Cards
To make a payment using a debit card, all you need to do is type in your 16-digit card number, expiry, and security code. You can save your details for later too, so it takes no time at all to set up your next deposit or withdrawal. Payouts can take up to five days to process, but many top bookmakers support the super-speedy Visa Direct service, which gets the job done in four hours.
e-Wallets
Using an e-wallet like PayPal, Neteller, or Skrill offers a range of benefits. Firstly, they remove the need to share your card details at the betting site, as you can simply log in using your email and password instead. Withdrawals are also completed within a day or two when using a digital wallet, and you can make use of other perks like loyalty points and the ability to buy and sell crypto. Be aware, however, that e-wallets are often excluded from making qualifying deposits for horse racing bonuses.
Paysafecard
If you like the idea of not having to share any card details or password when making a deposit, Paysafecard could be the option for you. It’s a prepaid voucher that you can buy in shops across the UK in values from £10 to £175. To load the funds into your betting account, simply key in the 16-digit code found on the voucher. The £40 transaction limit might be restrictive for some punters, but this rises to £1,000 if you create a Paysafecard account.
Trustly
Trustly uses Open Banking technology to act as a middleman between the bookmaker and your bank. This allows you to transfer funds directly from your bank without having to share your card details. Instead, you’ll access your bank account via Trustly’s secure portal using either your login details or by scanning a QR code. Deposits are processed instantly with Trustly and withdrawals are often delivered on the same day, but can take longer in some cases.
Responsible Gambling
If you check today’s non runners and it turns out your horse has withdrawn, it’s worth considering not placing a bet at all. If you are betting real money, there are certain precautions you should take to maintain healthy gambling habits — check out our top tips below.
Set Budgets
It can be helpful to set aside a pot of money to use for your bets to remove the temptation of betting more than you can afford. Be realistic about your stake sizes and remember that gambling should only be a bit of casual fun.
Set Account Limits
Account limits are a useful tool for managing your time and money. Deposit limits restrict the amount you can transfer into your betting account in a day, week or month, while loss limits prevent you from betting more once you hit a certain amount. We’d also recommend setting up Reality Checks that send you a notification when you’ve been active for a particular length of time.
Self-Exclusion
If you feel you need to take a step back from betting, you can set up a self-exclusion with the bookmaker. This restricts your access to betting services for a certain period of time — usually anywhere from six months to five years. Shorter time-outs are also available. And, if you want to block access to all gambling sites, we’d recommend using Gamban or GamStop.
Don’t Use Gambling as a Way to Make Money
Due to the inherent risks associated with gambling, it’s important to not view it as a way to make money. In the long run, there’s a good chance you’ll spend more money than you gain, so it’s best to treat betting as a casual pastime for entertainment purposes.
