What is the Victoria Cup?
The Victoria Cup is a handicap race run at Ascot in May and is open to horses aged four years or older. Contested over seven furlongs, the Victoria Cups is one of the toughest betting heats of the entire year with huge fields bidding for victory, but it can sometimes be a race that is won by a progressive performer, who goes on to compete at Group level.
Despite being a prestigious and valuable race in its own right, the Victoria Cup can often give trainers the chance to see what their horses can achieve, and many competing in the Victoria Cup are seen running in the Royal Hunt Cup over a mile at Royal Ascot in June. With some stepping up to a mile, those that don't see out the trip will drop back to six furlongs, and compete for coveted sprint handicap prizes.
