What is the Celebration Mile?
The Celebration Mile is a Group 2 contest held over a mile, which traditionally takes place at Goodwood on a Saturday at the end of August. It was first run in 1967 as a Group 3 contest, and was upgraded to Group 2 status in 1977, getting its current title 12 years later. The winners regularly go on to become Group 1 performers, and the last Celebration Mile winner to follow up in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot was Poet's Voice in 2010.
What happened in the 2019 Celebration Mile?
Simon & Ed Crisford's Century Dream sauntered to Group 2 success in the Celebration Mile, as the 11/4 favourite eased clear of the staying-on Sir Busker to claim victory in the Goodwood contest. Travelling smoothly during the early part of the race, Century Dream was sent to win the contest two furlongs out, and within a few strides he had kicked clear and went on to win in style, while Sir Busker put up a bold effort and bagged the runner-up spot.
No-nonsense success for Century Dream in the Ladbrokes Celebration Mile Stakes at @Goodwood_Races
