What is the Dublin Chase?
The Dublin Chase is a Grade 1 race run over two miles and one furlong and is open to horses aged five years or older. One of the showpiece events of the Dublin Racing Festival, which takes place over two days at Leopardstown racecourse, the Dublin Chase attracts some of the elite two-mile horses in training, who bid for glory in the coveted event. It is often used as a trial for the Champion Chase, which is run at the Cheltenham Festival in March, and while it's first running took place in 2018 it's been won by some elite performers. The Willie Mullins-trained Min won the inaugural running of the event and then retained the crown in 2019, while in 2020 his stablemate Chacun Pour Soi was a classy winner of the race.
What happened in the 2021 Dublin Chase?
Chacun Pour Soi produced a sensational performance to obliterate his rivals to win the Dublin Chase and cement his place at the head of the betting for the Queen Mother Champion Chase. The race's complexion changed considerably when his stablemate and market rival Min made a huge mistake in the middle of the race and was forced to pull up. So, with former winner Min out of the race, Chacun Pour Soi cruised clear of his remaining rivals to beat Fakir D'Oudairies by eight lengths with Notebook a further seven lengths back.
