Irish Oaks Odds
The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race run at the Curragh in July and is open to three-year-old fillies. Contested over a distance of one mile and four furlongs, the Irish Oaks can sometimes see horses that have competed in the Investec Oaks at Epsom take their chance of landing more Oaks success, while some fillies may have featured prominently at Royal Ascot before having a tilt at Classic glory in Ireland. What is the Irish Oaks?
The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race run at the Curragh in July and is contested by three-year-old fillies over a distance of one mile, four furlongs. Attracting some of the elite fillies that have either competed in the Irish 1000 Guineas or at Royal Ascot earlier in the season, the Irish Oaks is contested by premier contenders from the UK & Ireland and the Classic event is a hugely prestigious event.
First run in 1895, the Irish Oaks will not only be a potential destination for those that competed in the Investec Oaks at Epsom, but runners from this race can use this event as a springboard to the Yorkshire Oaks at York later in the season. Notable winners of the Irish Oaks include Dahlia (1973), Snow Fairy (2009) and Enable (2017), who went on to sparkle in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe later in her career.
What happened in the 2023 Irish Oaks?
Aidan O'Brien's Savethelastdance was a stunning winner of the Irish Oaks as the Ballydoyle raider stormed home to beat Bluestocking.
