What is the Dublin Chase?
The Dublin Chase is a Grade 1 race run over two miles and one furlong and is open to horses aged five years or older. One of the showpiece events of the Dublin Racing Festival, which takes place over two days at Leopardstown racecourse, the Dublin Chase attracts some of the elite two-mile horses in training, who bid for glory in the coveted event. It is often used as a trial for the Champion Chase, which is run at the Cheltenham Festival in March, and while it's first running took place in 2018 it's been won by some elite performers. The Willie Mullins-trained Min won the inaugural running of the event and then retained the crown in 2019, while in 2020 his stablemate Chacun Pour Soi was a classy winner of the race.
What happened in the 2023 Dublin Chase?
Gentleman De Mee was a shock winner of the Dublin Chase in 2023, as the 15/2 shot pulled well clear of his under-performing stablemate Blue Lord, who failed to spark when sent off a red-hot odds-on favourite.
The history of the Dublin Chase
The race was frst run in 2018 and won by the Willie Mullins trained Min, in fact, the only trainer to have ever won at this race is Mr. Mullins with Min winning the inaugural event and the 2019 outing, the 2020 & 2021 runnings were both won by Chacun Pour Soi. The race was upgraded from Grade 2 to Grade 1 status in 2019.
