What is the Craven Stakes?
The Craven Stakes is a Group 3 race run at Newmarket in mid-April and is open to three-year-old colts and geldings. One of the first Group races of the Flat season, the Craven Stakes takes place on day two of the Craven meeting and is one of the early season trials for the 2000 Guineas and has been won by some classy three-year-olds in its history.
Having been going for over 100 years, the Craven Stakes is one of the oldest races on the calendar and looking at the illustrious roll of honour it is a really prestigious event. Dancing Brave was one of the finest winners of the race in 1986, and he went on to win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, while in more recent times Haafhd won the 2014 Craven before going on to win the 2000 Guineas in fine style.
What happened in the 2024 Craven Stakes?
Sean Levey and Richard Hannon teamed up to send HAATEM to Craven glory in 2024, with the colt going on to finish a good third in the 2000 Guineas a few weeks later.
