Highest Rated Horses in Britain 2026
As we get deeper into the Flat season and with the first Classic of the year out of the way, we list the highest rated horses in Britain in 2026, with Ombudsman topping the list.
Ombudsman (Official rating: 128)
A globetrotting superstar! John and Thady Gosden's star horse went to Meydan in March and pulled off the perfect plan which had been operated on for months. Sent off the 2/5 favourite and sporting the Godolphin silks, he ran out the winner of the Group 1 Dubai Turf which resulted in his third top-level victory and he has an exciting season ahead.
Bow Echo (Official rating: 126)
What a story we were treated to in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket as Billy Loughnane rode Bow Echo to victory to win his first Classic at the age of 20. Bred by the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, George Boughey's runner was sent off 9-2 for the contest and always looked the winner, seeing off Gstaad comfortably in the closing stages.
Opera Ballo (Official rating: 125)
Perhaps the fact he had race-fitness on his side was a contributing factor but Opera Ballo's victory in the bet365 Mile was impressive and he fully warrants his rating of 125. He had to concede 5lb to Field Of Gold on the day and he pulled clear of that rival as if he wasn't there. He has a huge engine and Charlie Appleby's star is finally living up to the early promise that he showed.
Field Of Gold (Official rating: 125)
Field Of Gold is a notable absentee in the Lockinge Stakes as he is suffering from a bacterial infection and that means he is in a race against time to be fit for Royal Ascot. He was below his best when runner-up to Opera Ballo in the bet365 Mile on his return to action but if he comes back fit and well, he will be contesting all of the major honours again this term.
Notable Speech (Official rating: 122)
Notable Speech had no luck in running in the Maker's Mark Mile at Keeneland on his return to action last month but the four-time Group 1 winner will have his turn again this season. The 2024 2,000 Guineas winner is a classy globetrotter who has won half of his top-level successes in America, and he will be a force to be reckoned with anytime he has his beloved quick ground.
Trawlerman (Official rating: 121)
Trawlerman is the king of the staying division, and was last seen holding off stablemate Sweet William to win the Long Distance Cup for a second time in its first running as a Group 1 at Ascot in October. All roads lead to the Ascot Gold Cup now, a race that he won by seven lengths last year.
Damysus (Official rating: 120)
John and Thady Gosden may have had to rule Field Of Gold out of the Lockinge at Newbury but stablemate Damysus is ready to fill the void. The son of Frankel finished last in the Derby last year but he has won all three starts since, including a Group 3 at Newmarket on his return.
