ITV Racing Tips: Three Picks for Glorious Goodwood Day 1
The opening day of Glorious Goodwood features the Goodwood Cup at 3:35pm whwre Scandinavia and Trawlerman face off once again for a top staying prize. ITV Racing is showing the first five races on the card and we have found three selections to back across those five races.
Read on to find out more about each tip and good luck if you decide to follow.
Goodwood 14:25: Coral Vintage Stakes (Group 2)
Today's opening race looks extremely difficult so our first selection comes in the second race on the card - the Group 2 Vintage Stakes - where I can't see past the favourite AL HUDAIBA. The Charlie Appleby-trained grey has won 3 of his 4 starts including a short head victory over Abraham Lincoln in the Superlative Stakes (Group 2) at Newmarket last time. He has a 3lb penalty to carry for that success but this two-year-old could be heading to the very top and, at around 7/4, he looks well worth backing.
Al Hudaiba
Goodwood 15:00 - HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes (Group 2)
There is an even shorter priced favourite set to go to post in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes but - at around even money - I'm keen to pass on Lake Forest in favour of the second favourite QIRAT who is trading at around 9/2 and will be seen by many as an each-way bet to nothing if all eight go to post. The Ralph Beckett-trained five year old sprung a 150/1 shock to win the Sussex Stakes at this meeting last year - his third win from three visits to Goodwood. He arrives on the back of a win at York so everything looks good for another profitable visit to the Sussex track.
Qirat
Goodwood 15:35 - Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1)
A Goodwood Cup to savour and one that should be an epic battle between the top two in the market - Scandinavia and Trawlerman. SCANDINAVIA won this race last year and arrives on a six race winning run that includes a head victory over Trawlerman in a tremendous Ascot Gold Cup last time. The 2025 St Leger winner has youth on his side and an uncanny ability to grind his opponents down at the finish. He rates a very worthy favourite at around even money and I expect him to cement his status as the world's best stayer.
