The Future Champions Festival at Newmarket reaches its crescendo on Saturday, with huge races like the Cesarewitch and the Dewhurst hogging the headlines. Billy Grimshaw was in fine form yesterday with his ITV picks, nailing two out of two picks and has sifted through the races and likes two at decent prices in the big events at HQ, check them out below...

15:00 Newmarket - Dewhurst Stakes
On the bare form of their latest outing when second and third respectively, there isn't much to split the Ballydoyle runners Gstaad and ITALY. Granted, the former seems to be the stable first string given super sub for Ryan Moore Christophe Soumillon is in the saddle, however I would not make the former 3/1 and the latter 11/1 given how the National Stakes at the Curragh last time played out.
Watching the race back, it's tough to say Italy didn't pull away a fair amount of his potential energy for a strong finish when very head strong indeed in the early furlongs. The Wootton Bassett colt looked green as grass and Ronan Whelan must've thought he was in for a tough assignment, but the penny did seem to drop at the halfway stage when the eventual winner, who had bided his time at the back along with Italy, started to make his move.
In the end Gstaad looked the much less complicated proposition in Coolmore colours and while he was edged out in a battle for the finish, he will of course expect to come on for the run. However, given Italy made stylish progress to third before being ridden less vigorously as the front pair once Whelan decided he wasn't getting to them, yet still finished just a couple of lengths back, means he's the one with more upside in here to my eye. Given my view that the penny dropped at the Curragh, I have to back him here to reverse form providing he settles out of the gate given the price discrepancy.
He is regally bred, as so many from the operation are, and if he is positioned a bit closer to the pace - which is likely to come from the horse next to him in stall 5 Gewan - than he was last time, I think he will be very competitive. Double figure price quotes should be snaffled.

15:40 Newmarket - Cesarewitch Handicap
Hopefully this year's Cesarewitch doesn't descend into farce with the first past the post winning, losing, then winning the race again, although we can't pretend the drama wasn't exciting. Alphonse Le Grande and Manxman renew hostilities and there will be plenty backing the reverse forecast of that pair, but I am looking elsewhere in 2025. This is not a race that three year olds have particularly enjoyed, as can be seen here in Dave Young's excellent GG stats pack on this race, however this year two decent looking stayers in the making are giving it a go and I am going to nail my colours to the mast and back BELGRAVIAN to reverse form with Reverend Hubert from their last meeting here over course and distance.
He is the bottom weight in here, with just 8st2 to carry and Nicola Currie is one of the few riders who can easily make that weight so she takes over from Jason Watson. Last time out they were over eight lengths off the impressive Charles Byrnes winner, however there is an almighty weight swing in play here with the last day Belgravian giving seven pounds but today receiving a pound. With a length roughly equating to a pound in weight, that would put the rivals much closer together and given Belgravian is still only three, there must be improvement still to come.
That's not to say Reverend Hubert cannot also improve, but he is seven now so that'd be quite surprising. Andrew Balding's charge didn't look to be going all out in that Ces Trial last time out and before that he had won his last three and four of his last five. Clearly a horse on the upgrade and perhaps discounted by those simply looking at the form of the trial and not the numbers behind it, I am hopeful of a big run and he is a relatively strong each-way pick.
