Royal Ascot Wednesday Tips: RaceOlly's five best bets for day two
There's a sparkling seven-race card taking place at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, and our top tipster RaceOlly is back with his best bets for day two of the Royal meeting...
14:30 Royal Ascot - Queen Mary Stakes
PRIMROSE RIDGE has strong form in the book already including winning a novice by seven lengths and finishing 2nd in the Brocklesby and the Hilary Needler and the addition of a tongue tie after the Marygate could have been a valid reason for the only time she missed the top two. Just caught close home in similar conditions last time out and Gary Halpin is a very interesting booking coming over from Ireland for just this one ride and this only Darryll Holland’s second runner at Ascot to date. Double figure draw is a positive with eight of the last nine winners coming out of them.
15:05 Royal Ascot - Queen's Vase Stakes
A lot of previous winners have won this having had plenty of racing and AL QAREEM has already proven himself a solid performer who improved again last time when upped to 12 furlongs. This further step up in trip could bring even more improvement and easily beat a very decent Godolphin rival last time. Karl Burke's three-year-olds have had a good start to the season with a 20% win rate and has already had a three-year-old Group winner
17:00 Royal Ascot - Royal Hunt Cup
TOTALLY CHARMING ticks plenty of boxes for this and is still improving every run. Still unexposed on the turf and looked very good when winning at Epsom last time out and becomes even more interesting here with Frankie Dettori jocked up for a trainer looking for his first Ascot winner. Due to go up further in the handicap in future and double figure draw is very handy with nine of the last 12 winners having that in common and last years winner was drawn low but the 2nd, 3rd and 4th were all drawn high.
17:35 Royal Ascot - Windsor Castle Stakes
JUMBEAU has been a real success story having been bought for just 2,000gns and has already easily won on debut and hugely caught the eye when placing in a Listed race last time out. Came from out the back and took an heavy bump in the Listed race at York and done very well in the circumstances. Yard has had a good start with their two-year-olds having won two from the four runners. Low draw not ideal but plenty of fast horses drawn around and stall 1 won last year so not a write off.
18:10 Royal Ascot - Kensington Palace Stakes
SPIRIT OF THE BAY has improved leaps and bounds since winning at Kempton last year and has since won on ground from soft to good to firm to all weather and is very versatile tactics wise making her very appealing in a race of this nature. Just failed to get up last time over the straight mile here and Clive Cox has a great record if you backed all his Ascot runners with a £1 win stake you’d be £147 richer over the last five years.
