The Scottish Grand National is one of the highlights of the later part of the National Hunt season every year and in 2024, there is a fresh layer of intrigue added with Willie Mullins sending an army of chances across as he attempt to plunder more prize money in his quest to win a first British trainers' title to go with the Irish championship he wrapped up long ago.
At the time of writing he has the favourite Macdermott and second favourite Mr Incredible, so clearly has a strong hand. The master of Closutton has four more entrants to take his total team to six, but he is not the only Irishman hunting the biggest prize in Scottish racing with Henry De Bromhead sending just his second EVER runner to Ayr in Whacker Clan, who will be ridden by Rachael Blackmore.
Paul Nicholls loves to be underdog and he is that right now in the trainers' Championship race, with Mullins' Grand National success at Aintree and Dan Skelton's breakout Cheltenham meaning the defending champion is in third place. He will send both Stay Away Fay and Broken Halo north to Ayr and a win for either would be huge for team Ditcheat's chance of retaining.
Lucinda Russell is the preeminent Scottish jumps trainer around right now but is represented by just one charge here, with Edinburgh National winner Inis Oirr pitched in on the hunt for a famous National double. There are a host more exciting entrants and you can see the full list below.
