What is the Britannia Stakes?
The Britannia Stakes is a handicap race run over one mile on day three of Royal Ascot.
Currently run as the penultimate race on Thursday, the Britannia Stakes is one of the toughest betting heats of the entire week. First run in 1928, it has become one of the most exciting races of the entire week, as while it may lack the quality of some of the Group races during the week, it is a popular betting heat with bumper fields going to post.
What happened in the 2020 Britannia Stakes?
Roger Varian's Khaloosy was a rampant winner of the Britannia Stakes, as the well-backed 9/2 shot breezed to the front and duly kicked clear of Finest Sound to claim an impressive Royal Ascot victory. Handing Jim Crowley another winner at the meeting, Varian's charge travelled like a dream and duly picked up for his jockey's urgings and claimed the win from Finest Sound with Cherokee Trail (third) and Enemy (fourth) completing the placings.
Khaloosy takes the Britannia Stakes at @Ascot and in some style!
It seems like Jim Crowley can do no wrong this week https://t.co/KKxNieAz7g
