The Duke Of Cambridge Stakes is a Group Two race run over one mile and is open to fillies and mares aged four years or older. Taking place on the second day of Royal Ascot, the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes is often a race contested by those fillies that ran in races like the 1000 Guineas the previous year, who are bidding for more Group success. What is the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes?
The Duke Of Cambridge Stakes is a Group Two race run on day two of Royal Ascot and attracts some of the leading fillies and mares aged four years or older.
First run in 2004, the race was first run under the name of the Windsor Forest Stakes, but in 2013 it was switched to its current name the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. Holding Group Two status means it may not attract the elite four-year-old fillies and older mares, but the roll of honour still has some smart names on it, and it's a race that continues to grow in stature.
What happened in the 2020 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes?
John Gosden's Nazeef was a gutsy winner of the 2020 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes as the 100/30 shot outbattled Agincourt in the closing stages to hand Jim Crowley a stunning treble on the opening day of Royal Ascot. Ridden off the pace, Nazeef and Agincourt went in search of long time leader Invitational, who tied up in the closing stages, and it was the two stalkers that went to the front, and it was Crowley that found enough to land the prize on board Nazeef with Agincourt in second and Queen Power back in third.
