What is the Hardwicke Stakes?
The Hardwicke Stakes is a Group Two contest run on the final day of Royal Ascot and is a race that attracts a host of top notch middle distance performers.
First held in 1879, the Hardwicke Stakes may not be one of the more prestigious races across the five-day Flat extravaganza, but it's a race that can produce some sensational winners, and none more so than Harbinger, who rocketed clear in fine fashion to claim victory in the 2010 renewal. Despite only holding Group Two status it can be a race that sees Group One performers taking their chance.
What happened in the 2020 Hardwicke Stakes?
John Gosden's Fanny Logan was a clear winner of the Hardwicke Stakes as the 17/2 shot came round the outside in the closing stages to land the Group 2 prize. Communique was the pace setter and set a fierce gallop and he had many in behind struggling to pick up, but Fanny Logan was the most eye-catching as she kicked to the front and pulled clear of outsider Alounak, who ran a huge race in second, while Defoe was best of the rest in third.
