The Great Voltigeur Stakes is a Group 2 race run for three-year-old colts and is contested over a distance of 1m 3f 188y and takes place at York's Ebor Festival in August. One of the leading trials for the St Leger, which takes place at Doncaster at the end of the season, this York contest has always attracted future staying stars that will look to claim glory on the Knavesmire and it can often be a race that could throw up a future Gold Cup star at Royal Ascot.
The legendary jockey Lester Piggott had a fabulous record in the race as he won it a whopping nine times during his career with the likes of Alleged being one of his most notable winners.
