About The Lonsdale Cup
The Lonsdale Cup is a Group 2 race run at York's Ebor Festival in late August and is contested over a trip of 2m 56y and is open to horses aged three years or older. One of the star staying races of the entire Flat season, the Lonsdale Cup is often a race targeted by horses that ran in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot earlier in the season and it can sometimes be a race that attracts the new, emerging sprinters.
Many horses will use this event as a stepping stone to the Doncaster Cup at the St Leger Festival in September and it's a race that has attracted some stellar winners down the years including the likes of Further Flight, Persian Punch and Stradivarius.
Andrew Balding's Coltrane fended off Courage Mon Ami to land the Lonsdale Cup in 2023.

- John Gosden has trained four of the last 10 winners
Lonsdale Cup Tips
With the form Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore have been in so far this Ebor Festival, it is a risk to take on their favourite Point Lonsdale here. Nevertheless, we think GREGORY for the Gosden stable is overpriced and can upset the Irish challengers.
