About the Nunthorpe Stakes
The Nunthorpe Stakes is a Group 1 race run over five furlongs and takes place on day three of York's Ebor Festival in August. With many sprinters that competed at Royal Ascot earlier in the season targeting this event then it's always a hugely competitive betting heat with only the fastest speedster prevailing. First run in 1922, the Nunthorpe is a hugely valuable prize and will see the elite from the UK & Ireland and on occasions from Europe do battle in a real cavalry charge.
Some of the greatest sprinters have tasted victory in the race and Sharpo (1980, 1981 & 1982) won the event three years on the bounce, while more recently Oasis Dream (2003) and star two-year-old Kingsgate Native (2007) landed success in the race, with Battaash (2019) another blistering winner of the event.
Adam West's Live In The Dream produced a fine front-running display to land the Nunthorpe Stakes with Highfield Princess back in second.
