About Cheltenham Festival Day 2
The Turners Novices' Hurdle is a Grade 1 contest over two miles and five furlongs, which has been won by some big names in recent years, including Faugheen in 2014 and Samcro in 2018 and that will kick off day two of the Cheltenham Festival.
Second up is the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, a Grade 1 novice chase for staying chasers, run over three miles, which regularly throws up a future Cheltenham Gold Cup contender. The last horse to win both races was the Jim Culloty-trained Lord Windermere, who won the Brown Advisory (RSA) in 2013 before following up in the Gold Cup a year later.
The Coral Cup is a fiercely competitive handicap hurdle and one of the big betting races of the day, run over two miles and five furlongs.
The Cross Country Chase is a race for specialists, which was often used as a warm-up for the dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll, who won the Cross Country a couple of times.
The fifth race of the day is the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the feature race on the second day of the Cheltenham Festival, and the second of the 'Championship' races during the week.
The penultimate race of the day is the Grand Annual Chase, which is a fiercely competitive two-mile handicap contest, while the day's action ends on the level with the bumper.
The Champion Bumper is the pinnacle of the bumper division, which consists of races that are designed to give horses who don't have a career on the Flat experience of racing under Rules. Recent winners include Cue Card (2010), Ballyandy (2016), and Envoi Allen (2019).
