About the Nassau Stakes
The Nassau Stakes is a prestigious Group 1 race run during Glorious Goodwood, and is open to fillies and mares aged three years or older. Contested by some of the finest talents in training, fillies and mares may take in this contest after running at Royal Ascot a few weeks previous, while the 1000 Guineas can occasionally throw up a leading contender for a race that is awash with quality traditionally.
First run in 1840, the Nassau Stakes was given Group 1 status in 1999, and is now one of the premier races for females in the Flat racing calendar. Down the years there have been some notable winners with Roussalka winning back-to-back renewals in 1975 and 1976, while more recently Midday won the race three years on the bounce (2009, 2010, 2011), with Minding (2016) another notable winner of the Nassau.
Roger Varian's Al Husn was a shock 9/1 winner of the Nassau Stakes in 2023 as she got the better of Aidan O'Brien's Above The Curve.
