Man United vs Everton Match Preview
Team News
Manchester United are still without summer signing Benjamin Sesko after the striker picked up a knee injury against Tottenham, while Harry Maguire also misses out with a thigh problem. Lisandro Martínez is back in full training after his long ACL layoff but is not expected to start, so Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw should continue in the back line alongside Leny Yoro. Further forward, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are likely to anchor midfield again, with Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu providing width and Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo supporting the central striker. Matheus Cunha and Kobbie Mainoo are both being monitored after recent knocks, which could mean more minutes for Joshua Zirkzee or Manuel Ugarte if Amorim shuffles his pack.
Everton have their own issues in defence, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson ruled out through injury and on-loan midfielder Merlin Röhl sidelined following hernia surgery. Even so, David Moyes should be able to name a largely settled side, built on Jordan Pickford in goal and a central pairing of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane, with Vitaliy Mykolenko expected to continue at left back. In midfield Idrissa Gueye and James Garner are set to start again, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and on-loan Jack Grealish offering creativity behind leading scorer Iliman Ndiaye. Summer signing Thierno Barry and youngster Tyler Dibling give Moyes extra attacking options from the bench.
Head-to-Head & Context
United come into this under the Old Trafford lights on their best league run of the season, unbeaten in five and edging back toward the top four places. Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 has already delivered a 4-0 home win over Everton last term and his side have started to look more cohesive at both ends of the pitch, with Mbeumo emerging as a key attacking outlet and Lammens quickly settling in as first-choice goalkeeper. The hosts know three points tonight would cap a strong November and keep the pressure on the sides above them.
Everton sit in mid-table but have tightened up since Moyes returned, with a compact shape and plenty of work rate through the spine of the team. They drew 2-2 with United in a lively meeting at Goodison Park earlier in the year and will feel they can trouble Amorim’s side again, especially on set pieces where Tarkowski and Keane are always dangerous. United’s extra firepower and home advantage make them favourites, yet with Everton’s improved organisation and a sprinkling of new attacking talent, this has the feel of a game that could stay alive right to the final whistle.
