This represents a deserved step up in class for the progressive young chaser KAP AUTEUIL (NAP – 1 point win bet at 6/1), who has won his last four starts by a combined distance of approximately 50-lengths. A full brother to the dual Grade 1 winner and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner up A Plus Tard, this Toby Lawes-trained six-year-old comes here in fine form having made a winning seasonal reappearance at Stratford two weeks ago. He is entitled to have come on for that run as it was his first start since scoring at Market Rasen in March. With proven stamina over further, he should relish the test that Cheltenham will pose, especially given the standard of jumping he has shown so far. Jockey Tom Cannon, who knows the horse well, has ridden five winners in the past fortnight and travels to Cheltenham for just this one ride. There could well be plenty more improvement to come from Kap Auteuil, so this opportunity off a mark of 134 and a weight of just 10-11 looks really attractive. Bathiva, 4-8 over fences and running off bottom weight, and Editeur Du Gite, who ended last season in excellent form, are the biggest dangers.
