What is the Diamond Jubilee Stakes?
The Diamond Jubilee Stakes is a Group One race run on the fifth and final day of Royal Ascot and is one of the feature sprints of the entire week.
First run in 1868, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes has become one of the star sprints on the calendar, but in 2015 it changed somewhat thanks to the introduction of the Commonwealth Cup as three-year-olds were barred from taking their chance in the Diamond Jubilee. Horses lining up in the Diamond Jubilee have often been seen running in the King's Stand Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot.
What happened in the 2020 Diamond Jubilee Stakes?
Kevin Ryan's Hello Youmzain had to outbattle Sceptical before holding off a late surge from Dream Of Dreams to claim victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Giving Kevin Stott his first Royal Ascot success, Hello Youmzain was able to quicken impressively to edge past Sceptical in the final furlong, but Dream Of Dreams was staying on best out of the pack, however, he was unable to get his head in front of the winner, who won the sprint showpiece by a head.
