About The Queen's Vase
Taking place on day two of Royal Ascot, the Queen's Vase is a Group Two race that attracts some of the elite three-year-old stayers in the UK & Ireland, and it can often be used as a significant trial for the St Leger later in the season.
First run in 1838, the Queen's Vase has moved around the Royal Ascot schedule, but now sits in the race two slot on day two of the meeting, and it follows the Queen Mary Stakes, so the Wednesday kicks off with the juvenile fillies battling it out over five furlongs in the Queen Mary and then the three-year-olds compete over this long distance in the Queen's Vase, with all the runners holding aspirations to become a potential Cup horse in the coming seasons.
John & Thady Gosden's Gregory was classy winner of the 2023 renewal as the Evens favourite beat Saint George with Chesspiece back in third.
Queen's Vase Key Trends
- 5 of the last 12 winners were favourites or joint favourites
- All 12 of the last 12 winners had won at least one race
- 6 of the last 12 winners won on their last run before the race
Queen's Vase Tips
Aidan O'Brien is mob-handed in this race with the two market leaders, and while Ryan Moore has opted to ride Illinois it is HIGHBURY - the perceived second string - who looks the value now for Ballydoyle.
He destroyed the field in a Leopardstown maiden last time out to win by a widening seven lengths and there is a school of thought that we have not even scratched the surface of his ability just yet.
