The Scottish Champion Hurdle is a Grade 2 limited handicap hurdle, which takes place at Ayr racecourse in April and is part of the Scottish Grand National meeting. Attracting some of the premier hurdlers in trainer, this 2m event can often see runners that have competed in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival line up.
Established in 1966, this race has become a notable race on the hurdling calendar, and now taking centre stage alongside the Scottish Grand National the race continues to unearth notable winners.
Some of those that have etched their names on the roll of honour include Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon (twice) and more recently Champion Hurdle hero Alderbook, who won this race in 1996.
