What is the International Hurdle?
The International Hurdle is a Grade 2 race run over two miles, one furlong and takes place at Cheltenham racecourse in December. Used as a premier trial for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, the International Hurdle provides a whole host of pointers for the Champion Hurdle, and down the years some smart horses have won this race at Prestbury Park. In recent years Rooster Booster claimed victory in the 2002 International Hurdle before going on to land victory in the 2013 Champion Hurdle, while more recently The New One won three runnings of the race and My Tent Or Yours was another memorable winner.
What happened in the 2024 International Hurdle?
Willie Mullins sent over his star mare LOSSIEMOUTH for her seasonal bow in the race in 2024 and she could not have won in better style. The dashing grey cruised into contention while the rest of the field flagged and when Paul Townend pushed the button in the saddle, she put the race to bed brilliantly.
