Chester Vase Tips
We are backing Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore to extend their wonderful Vase record in 2025 with LAMBOURN, the favourite.
What is the Chester Vase?
The Chester Vase is a Group 3 race run over 1m 4f and 63 yards and takes place during Chester's May meeting. Attracting some of the premier three-year-old colts and geldings in training, this Group 3 contest at the Roodee is one of the early season trials for the Epsom Derby, with those horses with Classic aspirations looking for a confidence-building victory before trying to claim Classic glory at Epsom Downs later in the season.
First run in 1907, the first running of the race ended in a dead-heat, but since then it's grown in stature and the most memorable winner of the race came in 1981 when the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Shergar bounded to glory before going on to become a runaway winner of the Derby. More recently, Aidan O'Brien has been a dominant figure saddling a host of winners in the race, and in 2017 Wings Of Eagles landed success in the race before emulating the mighty Shergar and claiming Derby glory at Epsom Downs.
