About the Stewards' Cup
The Stewards' Cup is a handicap race run over six furlongs and makes up part of Glorious Goodwood. With a huge field of over 25 runners often competing for the prize, the Stewards' Cup is one of the toughest races to win, but it can often some horses that have competed at Royal Ascot earlier in the season heading to Goodwood to try and claim victory in the event. It can often be a race that throws up a future Group-winning horse that will go on to compete at the highest level at the like of Royal Ascot or British Champions Day, but being a hugely competitive handicap event then there can be some shock winners.
One of the standout previous winners is Lochsong (1992), who went on to win the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and many more top prizes, while more recently Borderlescott (2006) and Magical Memory (2014) have been some notable winners of the race.
David O'Meara's Aberama Gold stormed through the mud to get the better of Apollo One in an energy-sapping renewal of the 2023 Stewards' Cup.
