What is the King George Stakes?
The King George Stakes is a Group 2 contest and the headline race of the fourth day of Glorious Goodwood, held over the minimum trip of five furlongs. It is heralded as one of the fastest five furlongs around, due to Goodwood's predominently downhill sprint track. The race has been dominated in recent years by the star sprinter Battaash, who has won each of the last three renewals.
What happened in the 2020 King George Stakes?
Battaash maintained his dominance in the King George Stakes, as the Charles Hills-trained speedball claimed victory in the Glorious Goodwood race for the fourth year on the bounce. Prominent throughout, Battaash was always cruising for Jim Crowley and while Glass Slippers and Ornate looked to reel him in the closing stages, the red-hot favourite was not for catching and he scooted clear to enhance his already lofty reputation.
🦇🏆 FOUR IN A ROW!
Battaash makes history, winning the Qatar King George Stakes, smashing the course record and @cbhills is now the joint most successful trainer in the history of this famous race
