What is the Matron Stakes?
The Matron Stakes is a Group 1 contest run over a mile at Leopardstown in September and is open to fillies and mares aged three years or older. Attracting some of the premier fillies and mares in training it can be a contest that sees the elite of the three-year-old Classic generation lock horns with their older adversaries and it's one of the premier races on the Irish Flat calendar.
