2000 Guineas Runners: Ten To Try To Stop City Of Troy
The flat season is well underway now and with the final field now known for the 2024 2000 Guineas, the summer feels around the corner. All the talk over winter has been about favourite CITY OF TROY, but there are ten quality three year olds who will be out to spoil the Ballydoyle party at Newmarket come Saturday. Here we hone in on the final field...

There is only one place to start when looking at the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket this weekend, City Of Troy. Aidan O'Brien has in the past perhaps indulged in a smidgen of hyperbole when discussing his star juveniles' prospects for their Classic campaign - Air Force Blue, we're looking at you - but there can be little doubt the team at Ballydoyle think this is a special colt and the evidence we have seen thus far on track indicates as such.
The Justify colt is unbeaten thus far in his three starts, with each more impressive than the previous. He won his maiden with ease as a 6/4 favourite at the Curragh before scooping a Group 2 at Newmarket's July course - beating subsequent Craven winner Haatem who reopposes here by 6.5 lengths with ease. He then signed off with Group 1 success in the Dewhurst at Newmarket when 8/15 favourite, pulling away with ease from another entrant here Alyanaabi.
It is tough to see either of those vanquished foes reversing the form, for all they could've kicked on at the age of three, and their prices reflect that fact. The main market rival at the time of writing is Richard Hannon's Rosallion, who will have plenty of fans after Haatem's Craven win prompted Hannon to exclaim how much better Rosallion was than him. Next in the market comes Notable Speech for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin, who is also unbeaten in three starts.
This Dubawi colt looks to have a cracking each-way chance and the team will be confident, so perhaps the 9/1 on offer at the time of writing will prove value. Night Raider and Ghostwriter come next in the market and are also both unbeaten, but they have not looked to quite have the star quality of the favourite. Bigger priced horses have hit the frame in the past in Classics and at 20/1+, Task Force looks a solid proposition for Ralph Beckett while Iberian will have his supporters at a similar price.
The field is completed by outsiders Ten Bob Tony - who is set to be ridden by a jockey getting rave reviews in Saffie Osborne - and Inisherin.
