Aintree Grand National - Day 2 - Ladies Day Friday
One of the highlights of the year, Ladies Day draws a bumper crowd at Aintree, and is one of the big social events of the year in the North West of England.
Fashionistas from around the country descend on Aintree, and fashion is very much in the spotlight. There is a style award for the best-dressed lady on the day, with the winner earning some huge prizes.
Meanwhile, the racing action is electric, too, with four Grade 1 contests. Although the Melling Chase regularly attracts the key players from the previous month's Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, the feature race of the day is arguably the Topham Chase. One of five races each season held on the National course, the race is held over a distance of two miles, five furlongs and 19 yards - and tends to be targeted by horses who can't stay the mammoth trip of the following day's Grand National.
