Glorious Goodwood Day 2 Tips: Mojomaker a huge price to land Molecomb glory
There's a superb day's racing at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday, and you can check out our best bets for day two here...
13:50 Glorious Goodwood - Unibet '15 To Go' Handicap
Mark Johnston has a sensational record at Glorious Goodwood and the Scottish trainer will saddle a four-pronged attack in the opening race on Wednesday afternoon at 13:50. The standout choice from Johnston's quartet is Kings Prince, who is still very lightly raced having only had three runs, but of that trio of outings the son of Kingman has recorded two victories.
An eye-catching maiden victory as a juvenile at Haydock last season, Kings Prince kicked off the 2021 campaign in similar fashion as he was a stunning winner of a Ponetfract contest back in June. Pulling five-and-a-half lengths clear that day at Ponte, the three-year-old earned himself a crack at Listed level, and he was sent off a warm favourite for the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton. However, he failed to maintain his 100% record as he was fourth in that Hamilton event, but he was far from disgraced, so is entitled to be respected now dropped into handicap company.
He will face some lively challengers in the shape of Siskany and Nagano, and both will be bidding to bounce back from defeat last time out, but it's Kings Prince that is still open to significant improvement, and he can bound to victory in Wednesday's opener.
14:25 Glorious Goodwood - Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes
A star-studded list of fillies and mares lock horns for the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at 14:25 and with the bookmakers going 7/1 the field, at the time of writing, it's a fabulous betting heat for punters to enjoy. Nell Gwyn winner Sacred failed to land any sort of blow when down the field in the 1000 Guineas, but having shown her class at Newmarket two starts ago then she has to set the standard.
Vadream and Valeria Messalina are two horses that line up on the back of second placed runs last time out, but the one that catches the eye is Bounce The Blues, who was third on her last start. Andrew Balding's four-year-old was last seen chasing home Century Dream and Top Rank in a Listed event at Windsor. Prior to that she was just touched off in the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield Park.
The daughter of Excelebration has been a real model of consistency throughout her career, but has only managed to rack up two wins from her ten races. However, one of those came in soft ground at Naas, when trained in Ireland, so with the ground set to be testing at Goodwood following a barrage of showers in the lead-up to the meeting then Bounce The Blues can relish the give underfoot and bound to her third victory.
15:00 Glorious Goodwood - Molecomb Stakes
Ed Bethell's Fearby was a stunning winner of the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown Park last time out, and he will head into the Molecomb Stakes at 15:00 as the one to beat in a fascinating juvenile event. Windsor Castle Stakes winner Chipotle failed to build on that Royal Ascot success last time out when being well beaten in the Weatherbys Super Sprint, and he will find it tough to strike here, while Kaboo and Armor are another brace of prominent figures in the betting, and both have to be respected.
While Fearby was a stunning winner at Sandown and he looks to stand a great chance of bagging Molecomb glory, the second placed contender Mojomaker ran a fine race for a long way at Sandown before tiring late on, and he has to be given a second look here. Available at double-figured odds at the moment, Mojomaker showed tremendous early dash to hold a prominent position from the outset of that Sandown event, and he may have just kicked for home a little early, and he was unable to see it out at the end.
Prior to that second placed run, the David Loughnanne-trained juvenile was a six-length winner of a novice stakes, and a repeat of that effort should see him at least grab a place. With course experience, as he finished second at Goodwood on his second start, Mojomaker could play a prominent role once again on the south coast, and he is the each-way selection against the eye-catching Fearby, who looks tough to beat.
