Horse Racing Tips: Saffie On The Spotlight Nap

A new week is here and there is a new leader in the Naps table! The cold weather has mercifully subsided and as such we have a day with no abandonments and four fixtures to enjoy. Here we take a look at the most popular Naps of the day, the Naps table leaders' picks and one of the most eye-catching stats of the day - as well as giving you all the big weekend news...

Monday's Most Popular Naps
With four fixtures to go at rather than just one or two due to the weather last week, there is a wider spread of Naps in the leaderboard than we had become used to. Three horses have been chosen as the best bet by three experts, with the first off being in the 14:15 at Plumpton for Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan IDY WOOD. The horse is an even money chance with BetMGM at the time of writing, and has outstanding claims of making amends for a shock defeat at 1/6 last time out at Hexham.
On the surface losing at those odds is disappointing, however he did only go down a neck and the leading duo pulled 10 lengths clear. Idy Wood also lost a shoe in the last stages of the race which may well have cost him, and the winner could yet prove to be useful. He looks rock solid in this contest if running to that level or to the level of his second in a Cheltenham Grade 2. Lambourn of the Racing Post is the most profitable expert to select him as the Nap.
Next up in the 15:00 at Kempton comes another favourite with three expert votes behind her, CLOUD COVER. Rossa Ryan is in the plate for James Tate on this Night Of Thunder filly and she undoubtedly sets the standard as a C&D winner. Marlborough of the Daily Telegraph is the most profitable tipster to be siding with Tate's charge. Finally, Jim Goldie and Paul Mulrennan team up for the third Nap with three votes and this is the biggest price of the trio - although not by much. The gelding runs in the 16:25 at Newcastle, BONITO CAVALO and is a 13/8 chance at the time of writing. He finally got off the mark last time out a fortnight ago and while the weak expected pace in this race is a concern for this hold up horse, he is clearly in rude health.
Follow The Leaders
Spotlight has recently taken the pole position from The Punt of The Racing Post, with just under £2 worth of profit separating the pair. Today they take on one of the most popular Naps in Cloud Cover with CUE'S BEAU, the second favourite who is set to be ridden by Saffie Osborne for Ed Dunlop. The top Racing League jockey of the past winter's ride is back from an eight month break and is very interesting on handicap debut, but it will take a smart performance to beat the in-form favourite.
The Punt will not overtake Spotlight even with a win today as TEA CLIPPER, their Nap, is an odds-on poke at Warwick. He is certainly the one to beat stuck into a Hunter's Chase, but is winless since October 2021 so caution may be advised at a price of 4/6. The Irish Sun are in third place with over £12 profit and they are siding with NEY at Newcastle in the 15:50 contest. he has looked the type to relish 2m on the flat with stamina assured from his hurdling days, and he was just a bit taken off his feet over a lesser trip on stable debut a few weeks back. This looks a brilliant opportunity to open his account for his new yard.
- Spotlight - Cue's Beau - Kempton 15:00 - P&L: £16.71
- The Punt - Tea Clipper - Warwick 16:25 - P&L: £14.87
- The Irish Sun - Ney - Newcastle 15:50 - P&L: £12.07

Stats The Way We Like It!
Epsom trainer Adam West tops the tree of longest travellers today, sending just one horse 308 miles north to Newcastle for the 18:00 contest. DIRE WOLF will fly the flag for the yard in this mile and five handicap and will look to build on a career best success last time out at Lingfield when cruising to glory. A six pound penalty won't help him, but the horse is definitely in fine form...

Racing News Round-Up
- L'Homme Presse Presses Home Gold Cup Claims - It was brilliant to see L'HOMME PRESSE back in action and in the winner's enclosure yesterday at Lingfield, which saw Venetia Williams' star cut into single figures for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
- Baaeed's Half Brother To Bounce Back? - WALEEFY was all ends up on debut last time out as evens favourite for William Haggas, but the half brother to the brilliant Baaeed still ran on eye-catching for third and is back in action today in the 17:00 at Newcastle. Will you be backing him to go two places better?
- Allaho Takes Aim At Ryanair Hat-Trick - 2021 and 2022 Ryanair winner Allaho looks primed to attempt to regain his crown from Envoi Allen in the 2023 renewal of the race, after a comfy win in a weak Grade 2 at Thurles on Sunday. He is not the horse of old, but even this veteran Allaho may be too strong for the prospective field.
