ITV Racing Tips: Wednesday Picks for the Second Day of Glorious Goodwood

Wednesday's action at Glorious Goodwood is headlined by the Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes at 4:10pm. Once again, ITV Racing are showing the opening five races on the card so we've examined the fields and picked out three best bets.

Goodwood 13:50 - Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap

Al Shaqab Racing hold a very strong hand in this opening race with Hatteen - trained by Andrew Balding - and Cannes (Joseph O'Brien) topping the market at 2/1 and 3/1 respectively. They are both respected but the horse who could be well ahead of his current mark is the William Haggas-trained IFRAAD. He won a 1m2f Novice Stakes by over 6 lengths at Pontefract at the end of April and then hit plenty of bad luck in running at Chester last time out doing well to finish 1 1/4 lengths behind the winner. He races off the same mark today which could bely his talent and with Tom Marquand back in the saddle (1 from 1 on the horse) he rates the pick at around 7/2. 

Goodwood 15:35 - Veuve Clicquot Molecomb Stakes (Group 3)

Richard Hannon has a good recent record in the Molecomb with two wins (Trillium and Armor) in the last five runnings. He saddles the favourite PERSHAADA who began her Turf career with a C&D win in late May running on well over 5 furlongs to score by 1 1/4 lengths. She went on to finish fourth next time in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot finishing one place ahead of the reopposing Crownbreaker who has gone on to win a Listed race since in France. The negative is that she's been backed from 7/1 into 4/1 since the markets opened but she's still just about a bet at those odds.

Goodwood 16:10 - Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1)

Always one of the most eagerly anticapated races of the week, the Sussex Stakes sees the three-year-olds take on the older horses over a 1 mile trip. This season, the top three-year-old is BOW ECHO who remains unbeaten after five runs including the St James's Palace Stakes and the 2000 Guineas the last twice. George Boughey's superstar will need to cope with the fast downhill finish but he's coped with everything that has been put in front of him so far and with the 8lb weight-for-age allowance, he looks very much the one to beat here.
