Jessica Harrington's Lifetime Ambition was a smart novice chaser last season and he finished the campaign with a fine second placed finish behind Capodanno in the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival. Looking to kick on this season, the eight-year-old was always earmarked for the Grand National this season, and has been prominent in the Grand National Odds since finishing a creditable fourth in the Grand Sefton Handicap Chase at Aintree back in November.
Taking to the unique jumping test of Aintree's National fences, Lifetime Ambition travelled extremely well for a long way before failing to quicken in the closing stages, but that experience is sure to stand him in good stead for a crack at the Grand National on April 15. Next seen carrying top weight in the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan, Harrington's raider yet again put in a bold bid for glory, but was just edged out by The Big Dog in the closing stages as he had to settle for second place.
Handed a tough task of trying to live with subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Galopin Des Champs in the John Durkan at Punchestown, Lifetime Ambition finished a very creditable third on his third start of the season, while he was fourth behind the classy Fakir D'Oudairies in Grade 2 company on his penultimate start.
A spin over hurdles on his last outing saw him finish third, but that race would've been used to keep him ticking over before a crack at Aintree, and while others could be more popular in the Grand National Tips list he has shown he can jump round Aintree's National course and has been plying his trade at a high level, so has to be respected for a trainer looking for a first Grand National win.
