About Our Stats
This page updates daily with a number of different key stats and trends that are loved by horse racing punters. Whether it's hot jockeys or trainers, longest travellers or course and distance winners, we'll highlight the key information to help you to make statistical based bets. Stats and trends are often utilised by the best horse racing tipsters when they make their daily horse racing tips.
Cheltenham Gold Cup Stats and Trends
Statistical trends are an important part of the punter's armoury when betting on the Cheltenham Festival so we've included the key trends for each Cheltenham race on its own dedicated page. If you want to know how the favourites fare, what the perfect age is for the winner, whether British or Irish horses have a better record and whether last time out winners have a good record, head over to our Cheltenham Gold Cup page to find out.
What are Blinkers?
Blinkers are a piece of headgear used on horses to try and help them concentrate during a race. Effectively, semi-circled cups, the blinkers are used to make sure a horse focuses on what is going on ahead, as the blinkers stop them from seeing behind them, and sometimes to the side.
What is a Hood?
A hood is an item of headgear which covers the horse's ears, but doesn't cover any part of their sight. Often used to relax a horse, who maybe nervous of noisy crowds, a hood isn't used as much as blinkers, but can still be a useful tool used by trainers to aid a horse's chance of winning.
What is a Tongue Strap?
A tongue strap is a band that is wrapped around a horse's tongue and then tied around the lower jaw. It is used to assist a horse with its breathing during a race, and can prove popular with trainers in Flat or National Hunt racing.
What is a Visor?
Visors are similar to blinkers, but the difference with a visor is that they have a slit cut in the side of them, so the horse is able to see something adjacent to them. Yet again used as a concentration mechanism, a visor can often been used to try and turn a horse's form around, as the trainers look to get their horses to concentrate.
