What is the Royal Hunt Cup?
The Royal Hunt Cup is a handicap race run on day two of Royal Ascot and is one of the biggest betting heats of the entire five-day meeting.
First run in 1843, the Royal Hunt Cup is contested on the straight course at the Berkshire venue and with field in excess of 25 horses bidding for glory then it can produce some fascinating finishes with only the strongest coming out on top. Often you see groups splitting away from the main body of runners, where it's paramount to be on the pace, but all-in-all it serves up one of the finest spectacles of the entire week.
What happened in the 2020 Royal Hunt Cup?
Mark Johnston's Dark Vision was a clear winner of the 2020 Royal Hunt Cup, as the Godolphin raider unleashed a magnificent late surge to take the one mile prize for jockey William Buick. A bumper field went to post and it was a race that changed shape countless times, but it was Buick that kicked to the front on board Dark Vision, who maintained his advantage in the final furlong to win impressively. Montatham was best of the rest in second, while Pogo grabbed third place with Vale Of Kent bagging fourth place.
