About the Commonwealth Cup
The Commonwealth Cup is a Group One race for three-year-olds run over six furlongs and is the showpiece race on day four of Royal Ascot.
First run in 2015, the Commonwealth Cup is the newest race on the Royal Ascot schedule and replaced the Buckingham Palace Stakes. Run over six furlongs, it takes place over the same distance as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, but this contest is only open to three-year-old horses. So, it can sometimes see those horses that have failed to see out the one mile distance of the Guineas races earlier in the season dropping back to six furlongs and looking for Group One success.
Julie Camacho's Shaquille produced a fine late surge to land the Commonwealth Cup from hot favourite Little Big Bear.
Commonwealth Cup Key Trends
- 7 of the 8 total winners had a rating of 113 or higher
- 3 of the 8 winners have been favourite or joint favourite
- All 8 of the winners had at least 4 previous flat runs
Commonwealth Cup Tips
ELITE STATUS was our selection for the Commonwealth Cup of 2024, however he was sadly ruled out on the morning of the race. As such, a chance is taken on MALC at a big price for Richard Fahey, a horse with plenty of zip who could outrun his odds.
