October Form Pointers
A multiple Grade 1 winner over hurdles during an illustrious career over the smaller obstacles, Sharjah has made a belated switch to the chasing arena at the tender age of ten, but the Willie Mullins-trained star has shown he can make significant waves over fences this season. A former Champion Hurdle runner-up, Sharjah was a winner on chasing debut at Galway in August, but it was his facile 12-length victory at Tipperary in October in a Grade 3 race that saw him show his class. Beating the smart Captain Conby that day, the Closutton inmate jumped impressively and with experience on his side he's certainly a potential left-field option for the Arkle in 2024.
Gavin Cromwell's My Mate Mozzie is another smart hurdler stepping into the novice chasing sphere and the Irish raider was a comfortable winner of a Cheltenham novices' chase at their Showcase meeting in October and showed he has potential. He beat a mediocre field that day, but he couldn't have been any more impressive when cruising clear of Jetronic and he's likely to be stepped up in grade next time to see if he can become a potential Grade 1 novice chaser this season.
A former winner of the Triumph Hurdle at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, Henry De Bromhead's Quilixios is embarking on a campaign over fences and he was an eye-catching winner over Cool Survivor at Limerick. Improvement will certainly be needed, but he's shown he can deliver at the festival, so is another for the notebook.
November Form Pointers
Winner of the Champion Bumper in 2022, Facile Vega then was runner-up in the 2023 Supreme and the Willie Mullins-trained star is now set for a crack over fences in the 2023/24 campaign and he kicked off his chasing career with a fine victory over Inthepocket in a Navan beginners chase. Jumping well on the whole, Facile Vega pulled comfortably clear of Inthepocket, who is likely to want further than two miles in time, but the pair are both exciting novice chasers and Facile Vega certainly made a notable impression on his first try over the larger obstacles in public.
The aforementioned Mullins is sure to have a strong team line up for this event and Mister Policeman is another prominent figure in the betting, but at the end of November he put in a rather workmanlike performance in on chasing debut at Fairyhouse. Sent off odds-on that day, Mister Policeman was slow at times over his obstacles, but managed to show some decent pace on the Flat after the final fence to start off with a win, but significant improvement will be needed.
