Glorious Goodwood Tips: Check out our best ante-post bets for the summer showpiece

We are two weeks away from the start of Glorious Goodwood, where some of the finest Flat talents strut their stuff, and here at HorseRacing.net we have taken a look at the latest ante-post markets and picked out some of our best bets. We veer away from the epic clash between Baaeed and Coroebus in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes, and focus on some of the other feature races and pick out some leading contenders...
Tuesday 26th July - World Pool Lennox Stakes
William Haggas holds a strong hand in the Lennox Stakes, which takes place on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood and currently spearheading the betting is Aldaary, who was last seen bounding to Listed glory at Haydock Park and at 5/1 he looks to be a leading contender. However, it's his stablemate SACRED that catches the eye at 10/1, as the daughter of Exceed And Excel was only beaten a length in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, and that is top class form to take into the race.
Naval Crown who won that day has since put up a bold for victory in the July Cup, where he was placed, and Sacred has shown that the step back up to seven furlongs shouldn't pose any problems, as she showed last season when winning the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury. Haggas has stated that the Prix Maurice De Gheest could be an option for the four-year-old, but he has veered towards the Lennox for his classy filly and the former Nell Gwyn Stakes winner could well down her male adversaries with aplomb in a hugely competitive event.
Sacred
Thursday 28th July - Qatar Nassau Stakes
Fresh from a stunning win in the Prix de Diane in France, Nashwa could look to follow up in the Nassau Stakes, which will be the showpiece on day three of Glorious Goodwood, and the John & Thady Gosden-trained filly is a shade of odds-against to land this Group 1 prize and is the one to beat. A stunning ride from Hollie Doyle that day saw her shadow the leaders before unleashing a fine turn of foot to put the race to bed, but she may not get it her own way in this event, as she tackles some classy older horses.
One four-year-old that could lay a significant glove on Nashwa is the classy LA PETITE COCO, who has been hugely progressive this season, and was last seen bounding to Group 1 glory in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh. Beating My Astra by half-a-length in that event, she continued her meteoric progression, which saw her end last season with a win over the classy Love on her final start, and she is set to bid for a fifth win on the bounce. Available as the 6/1 second favourite, at the time of writing, Paddy Twomey's starlet will have to give weight to Nashwa, but she has shown like there's more to come over the coming months and she could be the value play.

La Petite Coco
Friday 29th July - King George Qatar Stakes
James Tate's Royal Aclaim continued his meteoric rise up the sprint ranks last weekend, as the three-year-old bounded to glory in the Listed City Walls Stakes at York, and the son of Aclaim was slashed to outright favouritism for the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes, which is one of the feature races on day four of Glorious Goodwood. Currently a 7/2 chance, the unbeaten star will have his work cut out to make it four wins from four here, as he takes on some proven top-class sprinters, and he could be one to take on.
Charlie Appleby's LAZULI is one that catches the eye as he should improve for his ninth placed finish in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, and at 14/1 the Godolphin raider could be worth taking a chance on. The five-year-old has bagged some notable prizes down the years with wins in the Scurry Stakes, Dubai World Trophy and Palace House Stakes just highlighting his class in Pattern company, and if he's at his best then he could well land a blow here. Prior to his Ascot run he was a notable winner of valuable Meydan sprint, so if he can unearth that sort of form then he could well play a starring role in a wide open renewal here.
Lazuli
Saturday 30th July - Coral Stewards' Cup
The final day highlight is the Coral Stewards' Cup, which is widely regarded as one of the toughest betting assignments on the Flat calendar and the 2022 renewal is no different with the bookmakers currently going 12/1 the field about the 6f handicap. Prominent figures at the head of the betting include Great Ambassador, Jumby and Popmaster, who all have some top notch form on their CVs and are sure to play a notable role, if taking their chance.
With a fortnight to go it's tough to be sure which sprinters will line up, but one that catches the eye at 25/1 is the Robert Cowell-trained ARECIBO, who looks an attractive each-way play if taking his chance. The seven-year-old has been competing at the highest level for the last few seasons and if he can produce his best then he can run a huge race. Unable to land a blow on Aussie speedball Nature Strip in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, Arecibo then dropped down from Group 1 company last time out, but failed to land a blow in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown Park.
However, a further drop back to handicap company could see him sparkle and while he finished 13th in the 2019 renewal of this event, he's a classier performer these days and if he can recapture some form then has to be respected. A strong finisher, he showed his class when second to Oxted in the 2021 King's Stand at Royal Ascot, so a repeat of that effort could see him outclass his rivals. It's very much a tentative selection at this stage, but he will be one of the class acts lining up in the race and has to be on the shortlist, should he run.
